The Fall 2022 Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS 103) Science, Technology, and Human Values: Metrics and Measurement classes have been examining origins, developments, future proposals for, and consequences of counting and measurement systems. Students will present their research and creative explorations on systems of particular academic, professional, and personal interest for your consideration.
What can knowing more about these systems’ origins and contexts provide toward considering their past, present, or future utility? Why has the use of some systems persisted, while others have been abandoned or forced to fade, and with what effects? Are there reasons to preserve or revive systems, or to diminish or abandon their use? Can combining approaches from humanities, fine arts, social and natural sciences yield answers to these questions? Come add your insights and inquiries to their discussions!
